Kit
Connect Kit (formerly ConvertKit) to your Workspace to build the tools your creator business needs on top of your Kit audience: dashboards of your list’s growth, a CRM for your subscribers, AI-drafted newsletters and sequences, and automations that run when something happens in Kit. Ask the assistant, or ask it to build features in your workspace that use Kit.
The Luo app for Kit acts on the Kit account that installs it.
Before you start
- A Luo account. Sign up or sign in at luo.app. You can also create one while installing the app.
- A Kit account. A few reports, such as stats across all your broadcasts, need Kit’s Creator Pro plan.
Installing the app
You can start the install in Kit or in Luo. Either way, Kit records the install and shows Luo under your installed apps.
From the Kit App Store
- In Kit, open the Luo app in the App Store and click Install.
- Sign in to Luo, or create an account. If you belong to several Luo organizations, pick one.
- Click Connect Kit, then review and approve the access Luo asks for.
- You return to Kit.
The connection is your personal Kit connection, and you can use it in all your workspaces.
From Luo
- Sign in to Luo and open your workspace.
- Go to Settings → Integrations and click Add Integration.
- Select Kit.
- Choose to connect as a user integration (your personal connection) or a workspace integration (shared across members of the workspace, who then all work with your Kit account).
- Click Connect. Kit’s install page opens in a new tab.
- Install the app and authorize Luo in Kit.
The Kit tab closes, and the connection shows in Luo with your Kit account’s name.
Connecting another Kit account
Each connection is for one Kit account. To work with several accounts, install the app once from each Kit account. Installing it again from the same account reconnects the existing connection, so its workspaces and triggers keep working.
What Luo can do
- Subscribers: list, search by email, filter, and look up subscribers with their state, tags, and custom field values. Add new subscribers and update a subscriber’s name, email, and custom fields.
- Engagement: find subscribers by opens, clicks, sign-up date, tags, source, or location, and read a subscriber’s email stats
- Tags: list, create, rename, and delete tags, tag subscribers, and untag subscribers (also in batches of up to 100)
- Forms and sequences: list forms and sequences and their subscribers, and add a subscriber to a form or a sequence
- Custom fields: list, create, rename, and delete custom fields, and update values for many subscribers at once
- Sequences: create sequences and write their emails, change their content and timing, and pause or delete them
- Broadcasts: read broadcasts and their stats and link clicks, create and edit drafts, stop a scheduled send, and delete broadcasts
- Reporting: list growth, overall email stats, segments, email templates, and posts published to your Kit site
- Purchases: list purchases and record new ones, for example sales from a store Kit doesn’t connect to
Luo doesn’t send your emails
Luo drafts, and you decide what goes out:
- Broadcasts are saved as drafts. Review and send them in Kit.
- Sequences that Luo creates are inactive, with unpublished emails. Review and launch them in Kit.
Luo can’t schedule a broadcast, activate a sequence, or publish a sequence email. It also tags subscribers one at a time, not in batches, because a tag can start an automation for everyone tagged.
Some actions can still make Kit send email, because they start what you set up in Kit:
- Adding a subscriber to a sequence starts that sequence’s emails for them.
- Tagging a subscriber or adding them to a form can start your Kit automations.
Start workflows from Kit events
Kit can trigger a workflow when:
- a subscriber is created, confirms their subscription, unsubscribes, bounces, or marks an email as spam
- a subscriber signs up through a form or landing page
- a subscriber starts or completes a sequence
- a tag is added to or removed from a subscriber
- a subscriber’s custom field value changes
- a broadcast finishes sending, or a post is published
- a tag, custom field, sequence, or broadcast is created or deleted, or a sequence is published or disabled
A workflow can filter on a particular tag, form, or sequence. For example, it can welcome subscribers who join one form, or add an interest tag to new subscribers.
Kit sends each event to Luo within seconds. Removing the trigger or the Kit integration stops it.
Using the app
Ask the assistant in plain words. For example:
- “How many subscribers joined last month, and from which forms?”
- “Who are my most engaged subscribers who aren’t tagged ‘Customer’ yet?”
- “Tag everyone who clicked a link in last week’s newsletter with ‘Interest: Coaching’.”
- “Draft a newsletter announcing my new course, and save it in Kit.”
- “Build a 5-email welcome sequence for new subscribers.”
- “Add jane@example.com to the ‘Workshop’ form.”
You can also ask the assistant to build features on top of Kit. Examples include an audience dashboard, a subscriber CRM with a detail view, a page that drafts newsletters, or a workflow that tags new subscribers by interest.
Luo asks before it changes anything
Luo asks for your confirmation before it changes anything in Kit, and shows what it’s about to do: the subscriber, tag, form, sequence, or broadcast by name. Reading from Kit doesn’t ask for confirmation.
You can choose to always allow an action. For tagging and for adding subscribers to forms and sequences, this covers only that tag, form, or sequence. For unsubscribing, renaming, and deleting, it covers only that one subscriber, tag, or field.
Good to know
- Unsubscribing is final. Once someone unsubscribes, only they can opt back in. Luo asks before it unsubscribes anyone.
- Unconfirmed subscribers aren’t active. With double opt-in, new sign-ups stay inactive until they confirm. Luo includes them when you ask for all subscribers.
- Custom fields go by their key. Renaming a custom field changes its key, and personalization tags in existing emails that use the old key stop working. Luo warns you before it renames one.
- Editing a broadcast from Luo converts its content to HTML. If you built a draft in Kit’s editor and change it from Luo, Kit stores the content as a single HTML block.
- Kit allows 600 requests a minute per connection. If a large job reaches the limit, Luo waits and tries again.
Removing the app
To remove the app, remove the Kit integration in Luo:
- Open your workspace in Luo and go to Settings → Integrations.
- Select Kit.
- Click Remove integration and confirm.
Luo revokes its access in Kit and deletes the Kit tokens it stored, and Kit marks the app as uninstalled. Kit triggers for that connection stop.
- User integration: removed from every workspace that uses it.
- Workspace integration: removed for everyone in the workspace.
If you uninstall the app in Kit instead, Luo can no longer reach your account. Remove the integration in Luo too, so the stored tokens are deleted.
What happens to your data
Luo reads Kit data when you or your workspace ask for it. What it has read stays where you asked for it to go:
- in your conversations with the assistant;
- in your workspace, if you saved it there, for example a subscriber table your workspace keeps in sync.
Removing the app doesn’t delete those. You can delete conversations and workspace data yourself at any time. What Luo created in Kit (subscribers, tags, drafts, sequences) stays in Kit until you delete it there.
To have Luo delete all data it holds about your Kit account, email support@luo.app from the email address of your Luo account. We handle deletion requests within 30 days. See the Privacy Policy for how Luo handles personal data.
Troubleshooting
- Luo asks you to reconnect Kit: the connection was uninstalled in Kit or has expired. Remove the integration in Luo and install the app again.
- The Kit tab stayed open after installing: some browsers don’t let a page close itself. Close the tab; the connection is already in Luo.
- A subscriber seems to be missing: they may be unconfirmed or unsubscribed. Ask for subscribers in every state.
- A sequence or broadcast didn’t send: that’s by design. Luo saves drafts and inactive sequences; send or launch them in Kit.
- Stats across all broadcasts aren’t available: this report needs Kit’s Creator Pro plan.
Support
Questions or problems with the Luo app for Kit? Email support@luo.app with the email address of your Luo account, the workspace, and what happened. Never send passwords or access tokens.
Privacy and data handling
Kit gives apps a single level of access to your account’s subscribers, tags, forms, sequences, custom fields, broadcasts, and purchases. Luo stores your Kit tokens encrypted and uses them only to act on your behalf when you or your workspace ask.
Data flowing through Luo is governed by Luo’s security and privacy practices, the Privacy Policy, and the Terms of Service.
